GAETA, Italy (AP) _ Four American sailors were killed Tuesday after their car slammed head-on into another vehicle north of Naples.

The driver of the other car was injured, police said.

The identities of the victims would be withheld pending notification of relatives, said Chief David Fliesen, a spokesman for the U.S. 6th Fleet.

A Navy statement said dental and medical records were being used to identify the bodies, which were badly burned.

Documents and personal items found in the car appeared to belong to four sailors missing at role call aboard the 6th Fleet command ship in Gaeta, about 50 miles northwest of Naples, Fliesen said.
