Attend meeting for Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show tomorrow
NEEDLES — The next organizational meeting for the 11th annual Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show is set for noon, Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the Wagon Wheel Restaurant along Needles Highway. Additional meetings are to be held Feb. 13 and 20 at locations to be announced.
The show is set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 and 23, in and around Jack Smith Park at the end of River Road in Needles.
Before the event a taco dinner and registration begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at BPO Elks Lodge 1608. A shuttle service will transport registrants to and from Needles Marina Resort.
A golf tournament tees off at 8 a.m. Friday on River’s Edge Golf Course, which straddles River Road. Format is three-player teams; an included hole-in-one contest pays $500 in cash.
Call River’s Edge Golf Course at 760-326-3191 or email email@example.com to reserve a spot.
The show itself brings hundreds of classic, custom and high-performance autos and water craft from all over the country. Judging is conducted on Saturday, with an awards ceremony held in the afternoon. The entries are spread through the sprawling riverfront park for public viewing. Vendors offer all sorts of fun and/or practical accessories for the motor-minded plus a variety of keepsakes. Food vendors satisfy diverse tastes and this year’s event will feature an outdoor bar during Friday’s festivities and a pair of them during Saturday’s.
The band Hope.Found adds an extra element to the entertainment.
Those attending can park free in the lot adjacent the Giggling Cactus Restaurant along Needles Highway and take a shuttle to and from the event. Parking will go for $10 at Jack Smith Park.
