SYDNEY, Australia (AP) _ Former NBA players Wayne Engelstad and Terry Dozier have signed contracts with Australian teams for the 1991 season.
Engelstad, who played at UC Irvine and later for the Denver Nuggets, signed with the Hobart Devils on Wednesday. Dozier, who played at South Carolina and with the Charlotte Hornets, signed with the Geelong Cats.
The Sydney Kings also announced the signing of former San Jose State University player Kenne Young.
Each team in the Australian League is permitted two non-Australian citizens on its roster.
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - British maxi yacht Rothmans led a 106-yacht fleet out of Sydney Harbor at the start of the 630-nautical mile NorTel Sydney to Hobart ocean race.
Rothmans, skippered by Lawrie Smith, took advantage of a 20-knot wind to grab the early advantage as competitors sailed out of the harbor Wednesday and headed south towards the Tasmanian state capital.
Rothmans, which finished fourth in the Whitbread Around The World race earlier this year, had to elude hundreds of pleasure craft that dotted the harbor to watch the start.
Rothmans rounded the mark at Sydney Heads several boat lengths ahead of Australian maxi rival Condor, the race winner in 1986, skippered by Tony Paola.
Another Australian maxi, Ragamuffin, skippered by veteran Syd Fischer, was third.
