Scranton Council To Review Ways To Fight Blight
SCRANTON — City Council will hold a work session tonight at 6 p.m. at City Hall on the Lackawanna County Blight Task Force’s report of late 2018.
Council will discuss implementing strategies of the multifaceted blight-reduction plan in Scranton, Councilman Wayne Evans said.
Topics will include raising awareness of existing housing repair and rehabilitation programs; amending the city’s quality-of-life ticketing program; use of a conservatorship tool to control blighted buildings; ordinances on permit denial and asset encumbrances; disqualifying from tax sales certain buyers who owe taxes or have liens; taking a more targeted approach to demolitions; creating incentives for private investment; and actively marketing properties.
