Man protesting fatal police shooting of boy arrested

October 20, 2015

CLEVELAND (AP) — Police have arrested a protester calling for justice for a 12-year-old black boy who was carrying a pellet gun when he was fatally shot last year by a white police officer.

Cleveland police arrested the man Monday night as he was protesting during a City Council meeting. The man’s arrest prompted other demonstrators to confront officers inside council chambers while demanding the man’s release. No other arrests were reported.

Protesters holding up photos of 12-year-old Tamir Rice chanted throughout much of the meeting and yelled obscenities at police.

The boy was shot and killed by an officer outside a recreation center last November. Two expert reports released last week by the Cuyahoga County prosecutor concluded the shooting was justified

Messages seeking additional information from Cleveland police weren’t immediately returned Tuesday.
