King Fahd’s niece claims $200,000 water damage to clothes

September 9, 1997

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) _ King Fahd’s niece had a little flood in her Cairo hotel room _ and now she says $200,000 worth of clothes are ruined, an Egyptian newspaper reported Tuesday.

The Al-Maydan paper said Saudi Arabia’s Princess Samaher accused the hotel of negligence after water pipes broke and flooded her bedroom on the hotel’s 30th floor.

Police found that the water had damaged 27 suitcases in which the princess kept her clothes, and she is seeking $200,000 in compensation, it said.

It was unclear what caused the pipes to break. Neither the princess nor the hotel were willing to comment on the incident.

The princess’s father, Prince Turki, has been living in Cairo since falling out with his brother, the Saudi king, some 15 years ago. He rents two floors of a downtown hotel for his family.
