Robinzine, Moore catapult T-birds over Demons 41-26: MHS’ halfback gains 215 yards, scores three TDs
BULLHEAD CITY — The T-birds returned from El Mirage, Ariz., early Saturday morning with a victory under their belt.
Mohave High School outscored the Demons 41-26 at Dysart High School during an Arizona Interscholastic Association 4A nonconference football game on Friday night.
The T-birds accumulated more than 300 rushing yards to improve their record to 2-2 overall, 0-0 in the AIA 4A Grand Canyon Region, and the loss dropped the Demons’ record to 0-4 overall, 0-0 in the AIA 4A Black Canyon Region.
Running back Will Robinzine gained 215 yards on 16 carries with three TDs, and quarterback Brent Moore gained 108 yards on 10 carries with one TD for Mohave.
Moore completed 1-of-3 passes, but his one completion was a 41-yard TD toss to tight end Christian Bay.
Mohave head coach Rudy Olvera thought it was the right time to go aerial.
Olvera said the score was 28-26 Mohave in the third quarter when Moore and Bay connected for the score.
“(It was) a great call at the right time,” Olvera said. “They loaded the box and we knew it was time to get a shot.”
When asked to describe how he, his coaching staff and his players responded to the triumph, Olvera said: “Excited.”
Mohave led 7-6 after one quarter, 21-20 at halftime and 35-26 after three periods.
“We came out in the second half and finished somebody — zero punts on our end the whole game,” Olvera said. “We made some big stops in the second half.
“(We) showed we bend, but don’t break,” he added. “It will be scary if our boys keep believing in their abilities.”
