Melvin Mason, 43, dies, reporter for the Stratford Star
STRATFORD — Melvin Mason, 43, a reporter for the Stratford Star and a former writer for the Connecticut Post, died suddenly at his home Wednesday evening. The cause was a heart attack, according to his co-workers.
The news stunned political leaders and workers at Town Hall, where Mason was often seen gathering news and attending Town Council meetings.
Mason, a 1996 graduate of the Syracuse University School of Journalism, also worked for the New Canaan Daily Voice, the Darien Times and the Daily News-Record in Harrisburg, Virginia. He grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mason, of New Haven, is survived by Alison Mason, his wife of two years, and his stepdaughter, Laura. Other survivors include his sisters, Marlene and Jazz Mason, and a brother, Alfonzo Mason.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
