StackRox Appoints Security Industry Veteran Kamal Shah as CEO
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep 25, 2018--StackRox, a leader in security for containerized, cloud-native applications, today announced Kamal Shah has been named president and CEO of StackRox, and he will also join the company’s board of directors. Shah was formerly senior vice president of products and marketing for Skyhigh Networks, where he helped establish the company as a market-leader in cloud security with more than 600 enterprise customers prior to its acquisition by McAfee.
StackRox co-founders Ali Golshan and Sameer Bhalotra highlighted Kamal’s mix of technical depth, domain knowledge, and market savvy as particularly helpful in guiding StackRox through its high growth and noted that the entire StackRox leadership team is excited to partner with Kamal.
Microservices and containers are amongst the fastest growing application development technologies ever adopted. Providing agility, faster time to market, and environment portability, containers are estimated to represent a $1.2 Billion market this year, according to ReseachAndMarkets.com. The market research firm estimates the market will grow at a compound annual rate of nearly 33% over the next five years, reaching $4.98 Billion by 2023. StackRox enables enterprises to adopt containers without sacrificing the security they need to protect their business operations.
“Working with Kamal over the past 10 years, I’ve consistently been impressed with his instincts, judgement, and market insights,” noted Aaref Hilaly, partner at Sequoia Capital and StackRox board member. “His successful track record navigating enterprise security markets and experience scaling teams through rapid growth will serve StackRox well.”
Tomasz Tunguz, Redpoint Ventures general partner and StackRox board member, added “Kamal’s experience scaling companies like Clearwell and Skyhigh is uniquely applicable to StackRox, and he’ll provide great additional leadership.”
StackRox customers span cloud-native start-ups to Global 2000 enterprises and government agencies. The StackRox Container Security Platform protects assets throughout the container life cycle, providing the industry’s first feedback loop that leverages runtime intelligence to proactively identify and address security risks earlier in the build and deploy phase of the container life cycle. The platform also protects against orchestrator-based threats, and its multi-factor risk profiling reduces the attack surface. The company recently announced upgrades to the StackRox Container Security Platform and an investment and technology development agreement with In-Q-Tel.
“Ali’s vision for building a new approach to cloud-native security here at StackRox sits at the core of the company’s success,” said Shah. “As I spent this year looking at various technologies and teams, I found myself drawn to StackRox, sitting at the nexus of two compelling markets and driven by a talented, committed, and passionate team. I look forward to accelerating the momentum StackRox is enjoying as it pioneers the most comprehensive container security platform available.”
