Lucas Column on Mayor Walsh Get His Irish Up
I have now read Peter Lucas’ column for several months. While he is an articulate writer and has knowledge of many past events that others do not know, he is the most biased writer I have ever read. In his eyes, there has never been a good Democrat or a bad Republican -- ever!
But now that he has taken on my namesake (Boston Mayor Marty Walsh), as a a thick Irishman, I feel compelled to respond.
Is it not customary to support someone running for office in your own political party? It’s done all the time, and if they lose -- it’s not your fault. The opponent was better liked for the job. To say, “Walsh Strikes Out,” when he isn’t even in the contest, is ludicrous. President Trump has endorsed several people who lost. Did he strike out?
Also, Lucas wrote when you think Boston, all you think of is its crime and traffic. Wasn’t this a problem under the previous Republican mayors?
From what I have read, Walsh is very popular in Boston with or without Lucas’ approval, and will likely say mayor if he decides to run again.
When I was a little boy, my Grandmother Walsh told me to always vote Democrat because they were for the working man and the Republicans were for the rich. I didn’t always do that. I voted for those who I thought would do the best job, candidates like President Eisenhower, President Bush Sr., Senator John McCain, etc.
So please give credit where credit is due and vote for the man or woman, not the party.
EDWARD P. WALSH
