Why to Vote for New Tewksbury School
My wife Cheryl and I are 100 percent in favor of the new proposed Tewksbury elementary school. It is well acknowledged that Tewksbury’s grammar schools are in need of a total overhaul or need to be replaced. I know firsthand of the deteriorated condition of the Trahan School, which my son attended over 25 years ago.
The first option is to renovate our grammar schools but a careful study determined that the cost to renovate these schools would cost almost as much as a new construction. The best option is a new elementary school which will accommodate grades 2-4. Tewksbury has been extremely fortunate to get a commitment from the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) of a cost reimbursement of 58.77 percent, which translates to $32.7 million.
There are so many needed benefits for our children to improve the quality of their education. These include, dedicated art, music, band, labs, special education and all other educational spaces. A number of needed safety concerns will be addressed and improved, new building security system, access control system, fire alarm, and fire suppression system.
Please take the time to learn more about this essentially needed opportunity prior to Town Meeting in May. Your vote is needed to move this funding forward to bring our school system up to date and secure this funding from the MSBA, which will be taken off their list if delayed.
Please join us in voting yes on May 6.
