Man gets prison in hit-and-run crash that killed Detroit boy
DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit-area man has been sentenced to 10-30 years in prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed an 8-year-old boy.
WDIV-TV reports 27-year-old Stephen Williams of Ecorse learned his punishment Friday after earlier pleading guilty to charges including reckless driving causing death and failure to stop at a scene.
Brandyn Starks was crossing a street in April in southwest Detroit when witnesses say he was hit by an SUV that disregarded a red traffic light.
Police have said the boy’s parents were searching for him after he left home with a wagon while apparently heading to a park. Williams was arrested a few days later.
