NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) _ The government has arrested more than 150 members of a religious splinter group, saying their teachings that the world will end next week is anti- government and a hindrance to Kenya's development.

Officials in the Kisii district of western Kenya began the crackdown two weeks ago against the Seventh-day Adventist Reformed Church, a breakaway from the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

District Commissioner Mbaria Maina said during a weekend rally that the group appeared in Kisii district about a year ago.

He said the sect claims in its teachings that the world will end Nov. 27 and so ''there is no need for people to struggle for development or go to school.''

Maina said the group also urged women members to leave their husbands and join a ''free world where they can serve all men unselfishly.''

The commissioner accused the sect of misinterpreting the Bible.
