Community Strings offering free concert in Davidsville

May 14, 2019

The Community Strings of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. David’s Lutheran Church, 401 N. Main St., Davidsville.

The Community Strings, directed by Beth Pile, is a group of adult string players.

“Working with these adult learners is such a joy,” Pile said in a prepared statement. “It’s fun for me, as a violinist myself, to be in the conductor role and to see the smiles on the players’ faces as they begin to make music. Many of them have been taking private lessons and the Community Strings provides the opportunity to play with other musicians and to be a part of an orchestra.”

The Community Strings will perform a variety of music, including selections by classical composers Bach, Carpentier and Gliere, as well as music written more recently for string orchestra. The concert is open to the public free of charge. A free-will donation for the church for the use of the facilities will be accepted.
