LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Houston Astros have a little time to savor their American League Championship win before taking the field again Tuesday in Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Astros shut out the Yankees 4-0 in last night’s ALCS Game 7 in Houston. The Dodgers have been waiting for their opponent since Thursday, when they eliminated the Cubs in Chicago.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi quarterback Shea Patterson will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. The school says an MRI revealed a torn posterior cruciate ligament in Patterson’s right knee. The sophomore appeared to suffer the injury during the second quarter of the Rebels’ 40-24 loss to No. 24 LSU last night.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel start 1-2 today at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Vettel needs a win if the Ferrari driver hopes to chase down Hamilton in the hunt for the Formula One season championship.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Martin Truex Jr. has the pole for today’s Monster Energy Series race at Kansas Speedway. Jimmie Johnson is on the bubble and Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth are among those on the outside looking in as the playoff field gets trimmed from 2 to eight. Truex has already clinched a spot in the next round of NASCAR’s playoffs with his win at Charlotte.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — One of the crew members for NASCAR star Martin Truex Jr. has died. The Furniture Row Racing team says Jim Watson died of a heart attack last night while in Kansas City for today’s playoff race at Kansas Speedway. He was 55.
