Benefit for Dixon man with Guillian-Barre Syndrome Saturday

DIXON – An old-fashioned ice cream social benefit for Jay Valdez of Dixon will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Living Well Church, 116 E. First St.

Valdez has Guillian-Barre Syndrome, a rare disorder where the auto-immune systems attacks the bodies nerve cells, causing significant pain and paralysis.

Valdez is paralyzed and on a ventilator, and unable to continue working in maintenance at Franklin Grove Nursing Home, where he has been employed for 18 years.

His wife, Danielle, also has not worked since his illness began. The couple have five children.

In addition to ice cream sundaes, there will be a cake walk, a silent auction, face-painting, a live dessert auction, games, food and music.

Proceeds will be used for medical expenses.
