Tokar-Ickes to be sworn in as commissioner Friday
Somerset County is a day away from once again having a third commissioner.
County President Judge D. Gregory Geary will swear in Democrat Pamela Tokar-Ickes at 9 a.m. Friday after she won the Democratic primary Tuesday by a comfortable margin.
Tokar-Ickes won 41% of the vote in a three-person race, according to unofficial county election results.
Geary had pledged to appoint the highest Democratic vote-getter.
“Basically I will be in place from that moment on,” she said.
“And I am looking forward to fulfilling the vacancy.”
And she is not the only one ready for her to fill the vacancy created by Democratic Commissioner John Vatavuk’s January death.
