Las Vegas official vote to file lawsuit over harmful opioids

August 2, 2018

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas city officials have voted to sue opioid manufacturers and have hired a law firm to represent the city.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Las Vegas City Council decided to move forward with the lawsuit in a 5-2 vote on Wednesday.

It has hired the Eglet Prince law firm, which has handled similar cases and is also representing Clark County, North Las Vegas, Reno and other cities in the state.

The lawsuit seeks to recover the money the local government has spent on law enforcement and social and medical services for issues associated with opioids.

Robert Eglet, senior partner at Eglet Prince, says specific doctors and pharmacies will also be named in the suit along with opioid manufacturers.
