Sharpsburg volunteers remove 600 pounds of trash during clean-up
Volunteers took to the streets in Sharpsburg on Nov. 3 to pick up litter -- lots of it.
More than 35 residents turned out despite the rainy day to collect about 600 pounds of garbage from the roadways, Mayor Matt Rudzki said.
“It was a successful town-wide cleanup day,” he said, adding four tires were removed from the neighborhood streets and streams.
Rudzki paid special thanks to all of the neighbors who pitched in, including groups such as the Sharpsburg environmental advisory council, local Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and Cumberland Woods Village.
The event wasn’t the first time this year volunteers gave the borough a makeover. For Earth Day, April 23, more than 80 volunteers stuffed 120 garbage bags with litter. Garbage removed then from streets and parks weighed more than 2,400 pounds.
