AL All-Star Staff Chosen

NEW YORK (AP) _ Managers Lou Piniella of the Seattle Mariners and Larry Rothschild of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were picked Wednesday as coaches for the American League All-Star team, which will be managed by Joe Torre of the New York Yankees.

Torre also invited seven members of his Yankees staff _ Mike Borzello, Chris Chambliss, Tony Cloninger, Lee Mazzilli, Willie Randolph, Mel Stottlemyre and Don Zimmer _ to handle batting practice and other field duties.

The AL trainers will be Jamie Reed of Tampa Bay and Mark Anderson of the Chicago White Sox.

National League manager Bobby Cox of the Atlanta Braves selected Houston Astros manager Larry Dierker and Arizona Diamondbacks manager Buck Showalter as coaches.

Cox also asked his coaching staff _ Pat Corrales, Bobby Dews, Glenn Hubbard, Leo Mazzone, Merv Rettenmund and Ned Yost _ to join him at this year’s All-Star game.

Dave Pursley of the Braves and Brad Henderson of the St. Louis Cardinals will be the NL trainers.

The game will be played July 11 at Turner Field in Atlanta.
