Conrad Smith to quit All Blacks after Rugby World Cup
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — All Blacks center Conrad Smith has confirmed he will quit New Zealand after this year’s Rugby World Cup to continue his playing career in France.
The 33-year-old Smith, who has played 85 tests for New Zealand, has signed a two-year deal with the French second-division club Pau. He is the latest senior All Black to indicate he will end his international career in October after the World Cup in England.
“It feels like the right time for me to move on and try something different,” Smith said. “Having a stint in France will allow me to spend more time as a husband and father, which was the main motivation for me when I made the decision.”
Smith is New Zealand’s most-capped center and its eighth most-capped player.
