One Person Dies in Crash on U.S. 36 West of Lyons
One person died and two others were injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 36 west of Lyons, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Benjamin Shettsline, 22, of Denver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Trooper Josh Lewis.
Shettsline was driving a 2008 Suzuki SUV east on U.S. 36 at about 6:20 p.m. when a 2006 Jeep driven by a 50-year-old woman from Superior swerved into his lane and hit his SUV head-on, Lewis said.
The two passengers in his car were both injured. One, a 59-year-old woman from New Mexico was seriously injured and taken by helicopter to the Medical Center of the Rockies, Lewis said. The other, a 57-year-old woman, received minor injuries.
The driver of the Jeep wasn’t injured.
U.S. 36 was closed in both directions at the 8 mile marker for at least an hour while the crash was investigated.
Alcohol or drugs are suspected as a factor in the crash, Lewis said.
