Man Killed During Going To Mother’s Aid

January 22, 1990

NEW YORK (AP) _ A 25-year-old man was shot to death at the door of his mother’s apartment when he tried to help her during an attempted robbery, police said.

″Mother, mother, you OK?″ Wayne Anthony Wilson said just before he was shot, according to his mother, Norma Beckford, 53.

Detectives were seeking two suspects, said police Sgt. Ed Burns.

Mrs. Beckford was returning to her apartment in the Bronx when she was accosted in her hallway by a young man with a gun.

The youth and a second gunman forced her into her apartment, where her 8- year-old son and a baby sitter began to scream, police said.

A friend told Wilson of the commotion and he rushed from his apartment in the same building.

When he knocked on his mother’s door, she yelled at him to get help but he continued pounding on the door.

The robbers opened the door and shot him, and fled, apparently without taking anything, said Sgt. Diane Kubler.
