Are you struggling to launch your career? Calling All Readers

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Young people in Northeast Ohio, like other parts of the nation, are challenged by unemployment and under-employment.

Sometimes it’s because they didn’t finish high school or have a criminal record. Other times, they have graduated high school and even attended or graduated from college, but they still can’t connect to a career that pays well and has opportunity for advancement.

Over the next several months, The Plain Dealer will examine how career preparation is working, or not working, for young people in our region. If you, or your child or grandchild, are having trouble finding fulfilling work at a decent wage, I’d like to hear from you.

I’m interested in any obstacle you might be facing, especially:

College debt: Was the cost of college worth it for the jobs you are able to find? Would you pursue the same degree again if given the chance to make another decision?

Experience: Is a lack of experience blocking you from well-paying jobs? Are there reasonable opportunities to gain experience in your field?

Training: Can you find affordable training for a field you want to pursue?Availability of jobs: Did you train for something, only to find no work in your field in this region?

If you are facing any of these challenges, or others, join the comments here, call me at 216-538-2912 or reach me at paodonnell@plaind.com.

Here are some good-paying, in-demand jobs in NE Ohio.
