Apple Harvest Festival: Southington ready for 50th edition
There’s entertainment at the Apple Harvest Festival in Southington, but the real stars of the festival are the apple fritters that people line up to buy during the two-week period.
This year’s 50th anniversary event begins Friday, Sept. 28, runs through Sunday and also Oct. 5 weekend in the area surrounding the Southinton Town Green on Route 10. There is free parking, free admission and included entertainment — which this year is led by Grammy Award-nominated band Bowling For Soup, known for hit songs “1985” and “Girl All The Bad Guys Want” (main stage, Sept. 29).
You might also catch a 2 p.m. Sunday parade, good eats, a laser light show, an 8-foot sand sculpture building and 9 p.m. Saturday fireworks to mark the occasion.
The Apple Harvest Festival attracts an estimated 100,000 visitors annually, say organizers. Also on tap are contests, crafts, children’s activities, carnival rides, an apple baking contest and an arts & crafts show Oct. 6-7.
