New Mexico Football Star Arrested
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) _ Ryan Taylor, who led the Western Athletic Conference in sacks, was placed on leave from the University of New Mexico’s football team after spending Saturday night in jail on charges of aggravated battery and false imprisonment.
Bernalillo County jail officials said Taylor, 21, was released at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Tony Herrera, Albuquerque Police Department spokesman, said he had no information on what led to Taylor’s arrest.
But Lobo head coach Rocky Long said Taylor has been placed on a leave of absence ``to take care of some personal problems,″ UNM sports information director Greg Remington said today. Remington said, however, Taylor remains on the team.
Long will determine Taylor’s status once legal matters have been completed, Remington said.
Taylor, who will be a junior next season, had 11 sacks last season as a defensive end. He has moved to the middle linebacker position during spring practice.
