Illinois Rep. Jeff Keicher hosts citizenship workshop

DeKALB – Residents interested in applying for U.S. citizenship are invited to attend a free workshop sponsored by state Rep. Jeff Keicher, Family Focus and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Conexion Comunidad,

637 N. Eleventh St., DeKalb.

Basic information those interested should know before registering for the workshop include having a green card for four years and nine months and knowing basic English, or having a green card for two years and nine months and knowing basic English if you are married to a U.S. citizen. English is not needed for citizenship if you are 50 years old and have had a green card for 20 years, or are 55 years old and have had a green card for 15 years.

Attendees will need to bring their green card; Social Security card; driver’s license or state ID; dates of all travels outside of the U.S. since receiving the green card; list of home addresses and employer dates and addresses in the past five years; spouse’s name, date of birth, social security number, immigration number and date of naturalization, if applicable; date of all marriages and divorces, if applicable; children’s names, addresses, dates of birth and their green card numbers, if applicable; any arrests with the reason, date, place it happened, outcome and disposition, if applicable; Selective Service numbers for men; money order for $725 payable to US-CIS, or $640 for those ages 75 and older; and money order for $50 payable to Family Focus for processing.
