Family safe after garage, home caught in blaze
A Rochester family is safe after fire damaged their garage and home Sunday afternoon.
The Rochester Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the 3800 block of McIntosh Drive Northwest at about 2:50 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they observed heavy, dark smoke and fire coming from the attached garage of a single-family home. The fire had also spread into the adjoining part of the house, which also received some smoke damage, according to a fire department report.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire in the garage and the attic space of the home. Firefighters also searched the structure for any victims, but none were inside the home. No one – either residents or firefighters – was harmed in the blaze.
The attached garage and a vehicle inside it both sustained heavy fire damage, and both are anticipated to be total losses. The home sustained fire damage, smoke damage throughout, and water damage, the report states. The damage is estimated at about $200,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Gold Cross Ambulance, Rochester Police Department, the American Red Cross, Rochester Public Utilities and Minnesota Energy Resources all assisted at the scene.
