Two Separate Tractor-trailer Crashes on I-495 in Chelmsford
CHELMSFORD -- State Police responded to two separate crashes involving tractor-trailers on Interstate 495 southbound in Chelmsford late Wednesday night.
Both crashes happened around 10:30 p.m., according to State Police. One of the crashes resulted in the spillage of more than 1,000 parcels being transported by a shipping company.
One crash involved a tractor-trailer and a personal vehicle. The second crash involved two tractor-trailers, one of which, a UPS truck that sustained heavy damage to its trailer, dropped its large cargo of parcels onto the roadway. The spilled parcels were to be reloaded onto another UPS truck that responded to the scene from the company’s nearby facility.
Three people were transported to Lowell General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the injured was an occupant of the car. The other two are tractor-trailer drivers.
Two of the three lanes were closed for the clean-up and the crash investigation.
State Police are investigating the cause of the crashes. Chelmsford firefighters and police assisted on the highway, along with Massachusetts Department of Transportation crews.
