US officials seize $325,000 aboard ferry leaving Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Federal authorities say they have seized more than $325,000 in cash aboard a ferry that was traveling from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement Friday that part of the money was found hidden inside a television and two refrigerators. Officials said the items were among several household goods placed inside a container aboard the M/V Caribbean Fantasy Ferry.
The number of cash seizures in Puerto Rico has grown in recent years amid an increase in drugs flowing through the Caribbean.
