Faith-based workshop for community change offered
La PORTE — For people in the community desiring to make a positive difference in challenges ranging from the everyday to the difficult, a discovery workshop will help them explore their interests and talents – and how to strengthen them in collaboration with others.
On Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., missional leadership strategist Dave Rahn will show willing volunteers how to leverage what they can offer to impact the local community. The workshop will be at The Presbyterian Church of La Porte, 307 Kingsbury Ave., and is open to anyone interested.
The workshop is intended to help people discover they can:
• Build momentum for a God-inspired cause
• Focus personal contributions for optimal joy and fruitfulness
• Mesh with others’ surprising assets to accomplish something great
• Grow love for others and faith in God by walking your talk together
Workshop leader Dave Rahn is collaborating with the Yale Center for Faith and Culture. Through its Adolescent Faith and Flourishing Program, Rahn is working for more joy among adolescents. Rahn holds a bachelor’s degree from Huntington College, a master’s degree from Wheaton College and a PhD from Purdue University. Rahn has published more than 100 articles, essays and books.
According to a press release from the church, a first step in meeting challenges such as childhood poverty, school violence, opioid abuse and more is discovering the power of acting together. Learning collaboration skills and discovering assets available when resources are pooled are key to solving problems. With God, selfless individuals become side-by-side co-contributors, bringing significant, lasting change.
“In addition to the skills learned in this workshop, our church seeks connections and partnerships for meeting local needs. We are grateful hosts and hope this event will help us build trail-blazing relationships for Christ-honoring ministry in our community and beyond,” according to the press release.
