EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Ben McAdoo is sticking with Eli Manning as the New York Giants’ quarterback in what has become a frustrating, lost season. McAdoo made it clear today that the Giants’ 1-6 record is not grounds for handing the quarterback job to third-round draft pick Davis Webb so the team can evaluate him in regular-season action.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — Former Major Leaguer and current television analyst Ray Knight has been charged with assault following an incident in his northern Virginia home. Fairfax County Police said they were called to Knight’s home in the Alexandria area at about 4 a.m. Sunday for reports of a fight. Police say Knight got into a fight with a 33-year-old male acquaintance and that both had visible injuries.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets have chosen Mickey Callaway, the Cleveland Indians pitching coach the past five years, to be their manager.The 42-year-old Callaway and the Mets agreed to a three-year deal Sunday. Callaway replaces Terry Collins, who stepped down at the end of the season with his contract about to expire.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have declined their $8 million option on 42-year-old knuckleballer R.A. Dickey and exercised their $4 million option on catcher Tyler Flowers. Dickey was the Braves’ most consistent starter this season, going 10-10 with a 4.26 ERA in 31 starts. He said at the end of the season he will meet with his family before deciding whether he wants to pitch in 2018.
