Kingwood sweeps Dickinson to advance to regional semifinal
Kingwood’s Luke Johnson and the Mustangs wanted to have a fast start against Dickinson on Friday night.
Kingwood was looking to sweep Gators on the Class 6A regional quarterfinal series - the Mustangs delivered with their bats on a fast start.
Kingwood scored 11 runs in the first inning as the Mustangs routed Dickinson 17-2 in five innings due to a mercy run-rule at Eagles Field in Barbers Hill.
“Dickinson is a great team,” Johnson said. “Honestly, we were thinking of putting them to sleep the first inning and just finishing the game out. We started out the game just like we wanted to and it gave us a lot of confidence at the plate.”
