Woman gets probation, jail time for Cass County crash death
PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (AP) — A woman involved in a fatal eastern Nebraska chain-reaction collision has been given probation and jail time.
Cass County Court records say 22-year-old Ashley Baumgart was sentenced Monday to two years of probation and 30 days in jail. The jail time can be waived if she successfully complete the terms of her probation.
Baumgart had pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular homicide. Authorities say her car rammed into the back of a pickup truck turning left off U.S. Highway 75 near Beaver Lake on Dec. 17. The impact knocked the pickup into the path of an oncoming sport utility vehicle.
The collision fatally injured the pickup driver, 63-year-old Leonard Kaffenberger, who lived in Murray.
