Gehrmann, Wright earn 100th victories for Eagles

December 26, 2018

MILWAUKEE — The Jefferson Eagles prep wrestling team won seven of 10 duals at the Milwaukee Hamilton duals on Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles were led by a perfect 10-0 performance by 113-pound senior Quintin Gehrmann. Junior Dean Neff earned nine wins in 10 matches for Jefferson with his only loss coming against Kenosha Tremper senior Reese Dutton.

Gehrmann and Weston Wright each picked up their 100th career victories over the two days.

The Eagles won all five of their matches on the first day of the tournament. They opened the second day of the tournament with a tough matchup against Kenosha Tremper. Jefferson earned a 54-24 victory in the dual.

“We came out like hammers,” co-head coach E.J. Pilarski said.

“Last year, they took one away from us, so we definitely wanted to make sure we won that one. I was really impressed by how we started. That really showed the boys that if they come out ready to go that can be the difference between a close dual and a dominant dual.”

Sofia Brynman-Metcalf, Aaron Heine and Weston Wright each went 8-2 in the tournament.

Jefferson lost to Whitnall, 42-39, in the second day. The dual was decided in the 195-pound match when freshman Tai White was defeated.

“He’s a freshman wrestling varsity and he was put in a big spot for us there,” Pilarski said.

“He did a good job, it’s just tough for a freshman to be in that spot. He’s really done a great job for us and he keeps getting better.”

Jefferson returns to the mat at the Mid-State Invitational hosted by Whitewater at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday and Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
