Lady T-birds lose heartbreaker: Bradshaw Mountain prevails in 5 sets
BULLHEAD CITY — It was shame one team had to lose the 4A Arizona Interscholastic Association Grand Canyon Region volleyball match at Mohave High School on Thursday night.
The Lady T-birds lost 25-23, 9-25, 21-25, 26-24 15-17 to the visiting Bradshaw Mountain High School Lady Bears.
The win improved the Bears’ record to 7-3 overall, 7-3 in conference, 4-2 in region, according to aiaonline.org. The loss dropped the T-birds’ record 2-7 in overall, 0-7 in conference, 0-5 in region.
Despite the loss, T-birds head coach Zdenko Radic appreciated the level of competition.
“I loved it,” he said. “I think that’s why we come; this is what we want to see when we come and watch a volleyball game.
“I hate to lose, but I have to give credit to both teams. That was one of the best games that I watched this season.
“It was an incredible game.”
Mohave sophomore middle hitter Hannah Burgess was very active at the net.
“She has been playing like all season, but she had injuries,” said Radic about Burgess’ superb performance. “She was out a couple of times, and those injuries kind of hurt her momentum, but she has been playing like that this season.”
Radic said Burgess earned a spot on the all-tournament team at Lake Havasu High School earlier this season.
T-birds sophomore outside hitter Maya Radic, senior opposite hitter/outside hitter Lilly Bouchard, senior middle hitter Natalie Willmore and senior setter Brianna Lipinski all played well.
Bradshaw Mountain setter Saylor Ford put junior outside hitter Mailani Manuel, junior middle hitter/outside hitter Peyton Bradshaw and senior middle blocker Rylee Brundrick in position for thunderous spikes.
