Helen L. Stonewall, 93, of Manteno, and formerly of Peotone, passed away Sunday (Sept. 23, 2018) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
She was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Clemons, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Bessie (Clemons) Duffy. Her parents preceded her in death.
Helen married Ozzie Stonewall on July 11, 1945, in Gilman, Iowa. He preceded her in death May 8, 2003.
She worked on the family farm and then later as a volunteer nurse and factory worker during World War II. She retired from Bennett Industries in Peotone in the late 1980s.
Helen enjoyed walking and also visiting the Peotone American Legion Post 392 for her glass of wine and socializing. She was a member of the Peotone American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathleen McFadden and Patricia Grady, both of Manteno; her sons, Michael (Lisa) Stonewall, of Palmer, Texas, and Jeffrey Stonewall, of Manteno; seven grandchildren, Brett, Amber, Sydney, Jackie, Rasalyn, Ben and Colleen; seven great-grandchildren, Ella, Elizabeth, Gage, Bella, Braiden, Jeremiah and Allysa; two sisters, Charlotte (Harold) Lancaster, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Bernadell Lily, of Marshalltown, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers; five sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Lois Stonewall.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone. Private family graveside services will be Saturday, Sept. 29, in Peotone Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Young officiating.
