JANESVILLE, Wis. — The Rock County Jail’s Canine Good Citizens program matches inmates with training instructors to help some not-so-good-dogs get ready for adoption. The program is in its fourth year at the jail, and command staff said the program has seen 20 dogs come through the facility on their path to finding forever homes. Although some people might question why inmates should be allowed access to the Canine Good Citizens program, handler Robert Goodwin said they should approach it with an open mind. By Austin Montgomery, Beloit Daily News. SENT IN ADVANCE: 921 words, photos.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. — When brain analysis revealed that former National Hockey League player Jeff Parker had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, it came as no surprise to his family. His brothers had seen him struggle for years with the after-effects of too many blows to the head — including concussions sustained 15 days apart in his last two games as a pro that ended his NHL career — before Jeff died last September at age 53 from a blood infection. Researchers determined Jeff had stage 3 CTE. By Eric Lindquist, Leader-Telegram. SENT IN ADVANCE: 1,989 words, photos.
