Rifle Police Department training dogs to ignore marijuana
RIFLE, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado police department is training its incoming police dogs to sniff out drugs while ignoring the scent of marijuana.
KUSA-TV reported Wednesday that 12-year-old Carter Fulk of Rifle raised money on the GoFundMe fundraising site to buy the new drug dogs for his local police department.
Rifle Police Officer Garrett Duncan says that the new recruits, Jax and Makai, will not be trained with marijuana so they won’t know the odor.
The police department will soon retire its older dogs that were trained to sniff out pot.
Other police departments in the state will soon be making similar changes.
