UConn women land first recruit of Class of 2019
Geno Auriemma has landed his first recruit in the Class of 2019.
Aubrey Griffin, a 6-foot combo guard from Ossining, N.Y., announced her commitment to UConn Thursday on Twitter. She visited UConn last weekend, and chose the Huskies over Louisville after canceling her final two official visits to Mississippi State and South Carolina.
“After a lot of thought I have decided to continue my basketball career at the University of Connecticut @Uconnwbb next year … I would like [to] thank all of the coaches that have recruited me especially @UofLWBB. I wish you nothing but the best!! Go huskies!,” she wrote.
Hailing from the same program that produced former Huskies guard Saniya Chong, Griffin posted outstanding numbers as a junior. She averaged 28.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists, and was named the New York Section 1 Player of the Year. This was after Griffin missed all of her sophomore year while recovering from a torn ACL.
Griffin’s father, Adrian, played in the NBA and is currently an assistant with the Toronto Raptors.
