High school baseball: Sam Nascak strikes out 15 in Winhawks first-round Section 1AAA Tournament win
A gem of a pitching performance by Sam Nascak and a little early run support lifted Winona to a 3-1 victory over Northfield in the first round of the Section 1AAA Baseball Tournament on Saturday at Jerry Raddatz Field.
Nascak struck out 15 batters in 6 ⅔ innings, while allowing four hits and an unearned run. He just missed out on a complete game as he hit the postseason pitch count limit of 115 pitches with one out to go. Spencer Wright came in and finished the game, getting the first batter he faced to ground out.
“It feels really good to get a win in the sections and put us in a better place,” Nascak said. “I had a good feel for my pitches and I know i have a good defense behind me and they’ll do their jobs.”
