Reagan Expresses Regret To Turkish Premier Over Attack With AM-Turkey-Ozal Bjt
WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Reagan sent a message to Turkish Premier Turgut Ozal on Saturday expressing his regret at learning that the Turkish leader had been wounded in a gunshot attack.
An administration official, speaking on condition he not be identified, said Reagan told Ozal that he was glad to hear he was only slightly wounded.
The official said the president also praised Ozal for his government’s efforts to combat terrorism.
Reagan was wounded in an assassination attempt on March 30, 1981.
The official said the shooting in Ankara is not expected to alter plans for Turkish President Kenan Evren to meet with Reagan during a state visit to the United States on June 27.
