Press Conference on Substance Abuse in Greater Lowell Communities
WESTFORD -- Officials from the Greater Lowell communities will be holding a press conference to address the issue of substance abuse on Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at Westford Town Hall.
The communities of Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro, Westford, and Wilmington have joined forces to combat substance abuse in the region.
This press conference will be the kickoff event for National Recovery Month in September and National Substance Abuse Prevention Month in October.
The master of ceremony will be Jeffrey Stephens, Westford’s health director. Speakers will include: Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Westford Police Chief Thomas McEnaney, Westford Superintendent of Schools Everett Olsen Jr., Westford Substance Abuse Coordinator Ray Peachy, and Greater Lowell Health Alliance Executive Director Kerrie D’Entremont.
Light refreshments will be served.

Megan House Foundation Gala
LOWELL -- Megan House Foundation will honor Dr. Scott Sigman, an orthopedic surgeon who has pioneered pain treatment without opioids, at its third annual gala on Sept. 28.
Work by Sigman, former chief of orthopedics at Lowell General Hospital, has been prominently featured in the media.
The event begins with a 6 p.m. reception at UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center.
Speakers will include a current resident of Erin’s House, the Megan House Foundation’s first Success Home, and a graduate of the program.

Friends of the Poor Walk
TEWKSBURY -- The St. Vincent de Paul Society Annual Friends of the Poor Walk is set for Saturday, Sept. 29.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the St. William Parish, located at 1351 Main St.
The walk will continue to Tewksbury Memorial High School, located at 320 Pleasant St. and end at the parish.

Tewksbury seeking Zoning Board of Appeals associate member
TEWKSBURY -- The Board of Selectmen is accepting applications to fill a vacant associate member position on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The ZBA hears and votes on applications for special permits, zoning variances, and appeals from zoning rulings made by town officials or boards.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, Sept. 21 before town offices close at 4:30 p.m.
