City council approves change order for water main project
NORFOLK - The Norfolk City Council approved a change order with Rutjens Construction for the South Water Main Loop project.
During Monday’s meeting, City Engineer Steve Rames told council members the revised contract increased the total cost of the project by about $108,000.
Rames said in the design phase of the project some sewer main replacements were added to the north end of First Street.
“The project was put together as a water and sewer main installation project. When we got out there and started tearing streets out specifically on First Street, the streets were in quite a bit of stress so as we were removing for purposes of utilities we increased the amount of removal to make sure we were taking out as much fatigued concrete as we could” Rames said.
The council voted unanimously to approve the change order.
