Herd volleyball visits UAB Friday
HU NTINGTON — The Marshall University volleyball team visits the UAB Blazers in Conference USA action at 8 p.m. Friday.
The Thundering Herd enters the match with a record of 7-9 and 0-2 in C-USA play. The Blazers enter at 8-8 and 0-2 in conference action. Fans can tune in to the match through CUSAtv.
“We have a tough road trip in front of us,” Herd head coach Mitch Jacobs said. “Both teams (UAB and Louisiana Tech) are much improved from a year ago and our kids will need to keep their focus from the start to finish if we are going to have an opportunity to pull either of these matches out.
TENNIS: Marshall tennis hits the road for the second time this season when it plays in the Hokie Fall Invite at Virginia Tech Friday through Sunday.
In addition to the Hokies, the Herd will be joined by Appalachian State, Bluefield State, Delaware, Georgia Southern, Iowa State, James Madison, Liberty, Penn State, Radford, VCU and West Virginia.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: The Marshall women’s soccer team plays a Conference USA match at the Old Dominion Monarchs at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Thundering Herd enters the match with a record of 4-4-2 and 2-1-0 in C-USA play. The Monarchs come in at 3-5-2 overall and 0-2-0 in conference action. Fans can tune in to the match on CUSAtv.
“We’re excited to play this weekend,” Herd head coach Kevin Long said. “We are looking build on a really successful weekend. ODU is a really well coached team that is able to be dangerous in many ways. We will be tested in every way Friday night. We will still be trying to develop consistency and success in both sides of the ball.”
SOFTBALL: First-year head coach Megan Smith announced the Marshall softball team’s fall ball schedule Thursday afternoon. The exhibition games begin with a Green & White scrimmage at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dot Hicks Field.
“The team and I are really excited for our upcoming fall games,” Smith said. “It will be great for our staff to see how the players compete and for us to get an idea of areas that we need to focus on during team practices this fall.”

Oct. 6 – Fairmont State 1 p.m.
Oct. 7 – West Liberty 1 p.m. (doubleheader)
Oct. 13 – Wheeling Jesuit 12 p.m. (doubleheader)
Oct. 14 – West Virginia Tech 1 p.m.
