Business beat: Rubberlite wins global award from the 3M Co.

HUNTINGTON — Rubberlite Inc. in Huntington recently won an international Supplier of the Year award from the 3M Co.

“This award is a very big deal in this industry,” said Mike Strickland, vice president of sales at Rubberlite. “Everything we produce is right here in Huntington and we are very proud of this honor.”

Rubberlite Inc. is a leader of converted cellular rubber and plastic products as well as manufacturer of custom-engineered polyurethane foams and flexible composite systems.

Strickland said over the past 10 years Rubberlite has expanded its international export business by more than 15 percent.

“This award recognized the support given to 3M by key suppliers,” he said. “It covers the entire Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions.”

In October, Rubberlite executives flew to Switzerland to receive the award.

“This award is a testament to our people and accomplishments over our long relationship with 3M,” said Brad Mayo, chief operating officer at Rubberlite.

3M’s suppliers were scored and nominated with regard to strategic, compliance and sustainability aspects, followed by technology, quality, responsiveness, delivery and cost performance factors, 3M officials said.

ALDI: Aldi will celebrate the remodel of its Hurricane store on Monday, Nov. 19.

The store, located at 103 Liberty Square, is part of a $1.9 billion initiative to remodel and expand more than 1,300 Aldi stores nationwide by the end of 2020.

Locally, Aldi is investing nearly $8 million to update five stores in the Tri-State area by the end of 2019, company officials said.

The new Hurricane Aldi store layout features additional refrigeration space.

Compared to last year, 20 percent of the Aldi product selection is new, officials added.

The Aldi product expansion is the next phase of the company’s national growth and remodel plan. As part of the product expansion, Aldi is increasing its fresh food selection by 40 percent with many organic, convenient and easy-to-prepare options.

Aldi stores also feature open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials.

The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“Remodeling and expanding our stores gives us more room for our refreshed product selection,” said Sarah Brown, Springfield division vice president for Aldi. “We know our customers want more fresh and convenient options, and by renovating our stores, we are able to provide new products as well as more of their favorites.”

Currently, Aldi is in the midst of a national rollout with online grocery delivery service Instacart to bring convenience, quality and value to shoppers’ doorsteps, Brown added. By Thanksgiving, Aldi Instacart will be available across 35 states in 5,000 new ZIP codes, she said.

Aldi is also building a new store in Barboursville in the Tanyard Station development. It is expected to open on Thursday, Dec. 20.
