July 30, 2018

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect who was shot and wounded by police as he resisted arrest then holed up inside his residence for several hours before being taken into custody in Southern California.

Officials in Oxnard say an officer on Sunday tried to arrest the 30-year-old man, who was known to police and had multiple warrants.

Police say the man fought the officer, who opened fire, striking the suspect. The man then barricaded himself inside the trailer where he lived.

The Ventura County Star reports SWAT officers used smoke bombs to gain entry and arrested the man without incident.

The newspaper says he was in stable condition following surgery. The extent of his injuries wasn’t immediately known.

The officer he fought with was treated for minor injuries. The shooting is under investigation.
