Hospital says person stole medical records of 60 patients
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Officials at a Rhode Island hospital say someone broke into a registration area and stole paperwork containing the medical records of dozens of patients.
An official says the stolen information was recovered by Providence police after it was stolen from Roger Williams Medical Center in September. WPRI-TV reports the stolen paperwork contained personal information about more than 60 patients.
Otis Brown, a vice president for CharterCARE, says officials have no knowledge if the stolen information has been misused and they are taking steps to increase security at the hospital.
Patients who had their information compromised have been offered a year of free credit monitoring.
