Parents plead guilty, are sentenced in baby daughter’s death

August 23, 2019

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — The parents of an infant who died in her crib have pleaded guilty to aggravated child neglect.

The Daily News Journal reports Colleen Delaney and Jason Ormonde were sentenced Thursday in Murfreesboro to 15 years in prison. Their 1-month-old daughter Niyalee died in April 2016.

An autopsy says the baby was found unresponsive in a crib cluttered with blankets, wipes, diapers and pillows. It also says she was malnourished, had fractured ribs, cuts and bruises.

Department of Children’s Services documents say both parents tested positive for meth and admitted to using the drug the morning of the baby’s death.

Delaney and Ormonde must serve a minimum of 70% of their sentence, which is about ten years.

The couple’s six other children were put in the custody of Ormonde’s mother when the parents were arrested.
