Anonymous Mays Signs Autographs

April 15, 1998

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) _ Baseball great Willie Mays doesn’t mind kids asking for his autograph. He just wishes they knew who they were asking.

``They know how to sell (autographs), but they don’t know me,″ Mays said Tuesday at a groundbreaking for the Atlantic City Boys & Girls Club.

Mays, 66, works as a goodwill ambassador for Bally’s Park Place Casino Hotel, which is contributing $3 million for the building. He wore a San Francisco Giants warmup jacket to the ceremony.

``The first thing they say is, `Who are you playing for? But you can’t be mad at them,″ Mays said.
